Please join us for a day in Dover. We will be visiting the Biggs Museum in the morning with a tour, and in the afternoon, we will be touring Woodburn Mansion and Gardens. The Biggs Museum is ‘dedicated to promoting an understanding and appreciation of the fine and decorative arts of Delaware, the Mid-Atlantic Region and the Nation from 1700 to the present’. Our creative, knowledgeable, and passionate Museum Guides are highly trained volunteers who share their love for art with Museum visitors. This year’s training class will focus on engaging children and students with the Museum’s richly diverse art collections. Guides have special access to in-depth learning opportunities at the Museum, and they form strong bonds with their collegial and collaborative group of fellow Guides. Mix, mingle, and get a little messy in the Museum’s ceramics studio! Participants will experiment with clay and complete a functional piece of pottery that the Museum will glaze. 30-minute lunch break. Instructor: Caroline Coolidge Brown Make beautifully detailed etchings without using harmful chemicals! Solarplates are light-sensitized steel plates that are a simple, safe and fast alternative to traditional etchings with acids and solvents. Using a light box and soy based inks students will explore making using painterly styles and photographic transparencies. Basic printmaking lessons in tearing paper, registering paper, mixing colors, and using the press will be covered.  All materials in this class are non-toxic. Supplies included.
