In Lifted, 2009 Guggenheim Fellow, Dr. Lorenzo “Rennie” Harris merges the powerful rhythms of house music with moving gospel vocals for a contemporary exploration of community and spirituality through dance. Loosely based on the story of Oliver Twist, Lifted follows a young black man from trouble to triumph as he is ultimately “lifted” by his church community.
