Due to inclement weather, this event has been cancelled. In partnership with Hispanic American Association of Delaware Celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a labyrinth walk illuminated by tea lights and traditional Day of the Dead activities. There is no fee for this program, but donations are accepted to help maintain the Museum’s Labyrinth. Family Friendly.

“Ruthlessly clean and clever…Okpokwasili puts the threat in triple threat.” – Time Out NY Delaware Art Museum presents Okwui Okpokwasili’s Poor People’s TV Room. Bessie Award winner, Okpokwasili’s multimedia dance performance is informed by two historical incidents in Nigeria: The Women’s War of 1929, a resistance movement against British colonial powers; and the Boko Haram kidnappings of more than 300 girls, which launched the Bring Back Our Girls movement. Poor People’s TV Room investigates how the complex collective actions of African women correspond to women’s social action throughout the world. This performance includes partial nudity. A workshop for artists at all levels that focuses on finding an embodied practice. Exploratory questions may include: How does a body make narrative? How does one build a movement vocabulary around the psychic condition of a character? Participants will work individually and in groups to explore developing a character through movement. In this studio-based workshop, Okpokwasili and Born will guide artists through ways to express the personal story through the body.
