At 7 pm on May 21—our usual Thursday concert night—we’ll bring you a special hour of Pyxis solos and duos. As always, we’ll start with a short pre-concert curator talk and then it’s onto the music. Please enjoy great music direct from the homes of this wonderful ensemble!

About Pyxis Piano Quartet

Pyxis Piano Quartet performs chamber concerts that include works from the sonata, duo, and trio repertoire as well as traditional and contemporary masterpieces for piano quartet.

Art Chat Weekly: Chords of Color
Jun 4 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Art Chat Weekly: Chords of Color @ Zoom

Many American artists experimented with color theories in the early 20th century. Robert Henri, John Sloan, and George Bellows adopted the musically inspired color palettes of Hardesty Maratta around 1910. Their friends Charles and Alice Beach Winter built on Maratta’s system, creating stunning chromatic charts in the Museum’s archives. Here in Delaware, concert pianist and musical theorist Mary Hallock Greenewalt designed a “color organ” that projected colored light based on the keys she played. Come discuss these theories and the colorful characters behind them.

Registration required. After registration is complete, you will receive an email with a link and details on how to join the Zoom meeting. If you do not receive a link, please check your spam folder or reach out to us.

Conversations with Women Making a Difference

Join us on October 1, 2020 for “Conversations with Women Making a Difference” presented by Blue Blaze Associates.

Carol Arnott-Robbins, founder of NEWS4Women, will facilitate a panel discussion followed by a Q&A session. Topics will include career highlights, life stories, and hard-earned wisdom from three influential women. The three April panelists are:

Melody Phillips is Director of Operations for The Warehouse, a new teen center in northeast Wilmington that will open in April 2020. The Warehouse is part of a multi-million dollar community revitalization project, planned by REACH Riverside, offering comprehensive after-school opportunities for up to 700 teens. Melody serves as Chair of the Workforce Development Committee for REACH Riverside and is also Co-Founder and Board Chairwoman of I Am My Sister’s Keeper.

Latifa Ihsan Ali is a Muslim American fashion designer and entrepreneur who is passionate about helping women get active and keep modest. Her company, LiaWear Action, empowers Muslim women to pursue the activities they love. Latifa’s line of modest sportswear and hijab solutions encourage women to get out and run, jog, kick, bike, hike, swim, splash, dive, and dance their way to fitness.

Colleen Perry Keith is the new president of Goldey-Beacom College and the first woman to hold that position in the school’s 133-year history. Before coming to Delaware, Colleen served as president at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina and also at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina. Her proven leadership and strong financial management were transformative at those institutions.

Bring your friends (including men!) to this fun and inspirational evening!

The event series is presented by Blue Blaze Associates and sponsored by NEWS4Women; all event proceeds are donated to local nonprofits. The 2020 partners and beneficiaries are the Delaware Art Museum and Fund for Women Delaware.
