With the Museum’s beautiful Chihuly Bridge overhead, Pyxis turns to music that spans time and geography and links composers to their homeland. Joaquín Turina’s Piano Trio is filled with the fire of Spain, and Zoltán Kodály’s Intermezzo draws on his beloved Hungarian folk tunes. The evening’s major work is Dvořák’s justly famous and masterful Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major.
At 7:30 p.m., a Museum curator will present a 15-minute pre-concert talk. You are also welcome to arrive early for dinner and light fare in the Museum’s Thronson Café. The concert begin at 8:00 and will feature complimentary desserts and coffee at intermission.

Individual tickets are $30 for Museum Members, $35 for Non-Members, and $25 for students.

Back by Popular demand, Step Afrika! returns to Wilmington with its blend of the percussive tradition of stepping with African and contemporary dance. The Company’s newest creation, Drumfolk, inspired by the Stono Rebellion of 1739, explores this little-known event in American history that forever transformed African-American life and culture. When Africans lost the right to use their drums, their rhythms found their way into the body of the people, the Drumfolk. New percussive forms took root leading to the development of some of our country’s most distinct performance traditions like the ring shout, tap, and stepping.

About Pyxis Piano Quartet
Pyxis Piano Quartet performs chamber concerts that include works from the sonata, duo, and trio repertoire as well as traditional and contemporary masterpieces for piano quartet.
Compelling, engaging and informative, the vibrant performances of Pyxis Piano Quartet have become increasingly sought after in the mid-Atlantic region. The Philadelphia Inquirer has described Pyxis as “excellent,” and Christine Facciolo (deartsinfo.com) stated in a recent review “balance, ensemble, superb intonation and sensitive interpretation characterized this performance.”

With a focus on social justice and cutting edge creative performance, this series brings artists to Delaware who are pushing creative boundaries and responding to present day events in innovative ways.
