Last Poets in concert – Where are We Now?
Oct 13 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Before RAP knew its name, there was THE LAST POETS. The powerful, prophetic, and inspirational poetry of Abiodun Oyewole, David Nelson and Gylan Kain called a nation to reflect on racism, poverty and other societal concerns. Their legendary influence as “The Godfathers of Hip Hop” is still felt today.

On 10/13 (6-8pm), The Delaware Art Museum presents THE LAST POETS in concert featuring students of THE LYRIC LAB. Born of a collaboration between 302 GUNS DOWN and the THE LAST POETS, The Lyric Lab will be used to teach children affected by gun violence how to create and perform music related to their personal struggles. This collaboration aims to demonstrate the power of art to the greater Wilmington community. It passes the cultural baton to our youth to reduce violence in our city.

The performance will contain explicit content.

All ticket purchases are final. No refunds or exchanges will be issued.

About the Exhibition

Juried Craft Exhibition
October 20, 2018 – January 27, 2019

For over 90 years, the Delaware Art Museum has showcased contemporary craft in its temporary exhibitions by artists working locally and throughout the region. Capitalizing on the Museum’s popular annual exhibitions of drawings, prints, paintings, sculptures, and watercolors, the first juried Contemporary Crafts Show was formally established in 1958. Since then, a rich array of woodwork, ceramics, furniture, jewelry, textiles, metalwork, glass, enamel, and leather has been selected by jurors from museums and universities located throughout the United States. Selected by Haystack Mountain School of Crafts Director and juror Paul Sacaridiz, the 2018 Juried Craft Exhibition will celebrate this long history and one of the most vital modes of artistic production today.

Holiday House Tour: Celebrating Timeless Classics
Dec 8 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The theme for this year’s tour – Celebrating Timeless Classics – started as just an idea; we didn’t have any houses. We wanted to enlist local builders and architects to help choose beautiful homes, but we didn’t know what we’d discover. Now, after visits to these homes ourselves, we realize that we are lucky to be invited into the new grand homes of the Brandywine Valley. The residences have been built for today’s style of living – gracious, relaxed, family oriented – and will surely stand the test of time.

Thank you to our presenting sponsors, Dewson Construction, Period Architecture and Porter Construction who identified these homes for us. The six are all different; some definitely reflect the heritage of the stone farmhouses of the past, but others chart new territory.

Doors will be open on December 8 to:

  • Elegant Highlands Classic on Kentmere Parkway
  • New English Country Manor in Greenville
  • Fox Hollow, the beautifully appointed home of one of our sponsors
  • Surprise Prairie Style residence set among the Brandywine Valley rolling hills
  • Tranquil Retreat, minimalist in decoration yet so inviting and restful
  • Chester County Hillside Estate, where attention to architectural detail and spacious rooms and vistas entice us to linger

Tickets

$35 if you pick up at the Museum or buy at retail outlets: Janssen’s Market, Everything But the Kitchen Sink, Old Country Gardeds, Purple Sage Herbs & Gifts in Middletown, Studio 882 Furniture + Design in Glen Mills

$40 day of Holiday House Tour: Purchase Saturday, December 8, at the Museum or retail outlets.

Meet the Artist: Intimate Visions

Get inspired! Learn about the creative process from the artists of our latest Outlooks show, Intimate Visions: Paintings on Paper featuring David Hornung, Constance Moore Simon, Žaneta Zubkova.

About the Exhibition

The intimate vision of each artist—a mingling of reality and invention—blends the natural world with abstract shapes. Whether in luminous or subdued colors, these forms conjure up a cityscape or countryside. Patterns may suggest solid objects or floating fragments. The small scale of the works draw us into the vision for a closer look. Learn more.
