An ensemble that blurs the boundaries between classical, jazz, rock, world, and experimental music
“A fiercely aggressive group, combining the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble.” – The New York Times
Formed in 1992, the Bang on a Can All-Stars are recognized worldwide for their ultra-dynamic live performances and recordings of today’s most innovative music. Freely crossing the boundaries between classical, jazz, rock, world, and experimental music, this six-member amplified ensemble has consistently forged a distinct category-defying identity, taking music into uncharted territories. Performing each year throughout the U.S. and internationally, the All-Stars have shattered the definition of what concert music is today.

Before RAP knew its name, there was THE LAST POETS. The powerful, prophetic, and inspirational poetry of Abiodun Oyewole, David Nelson and Gylan Kain called a nation to reflect on racism, poverty and other societal concerns. Their legendary influence as “The Godfathers of Hip Hop” is still felt today.
On 10/13 (6-8pm), The Delaware Art Museum presents THE LAST POETS in concert featuring students of THE LYRIC LAB. Born of a collaboration between 302 GUNS DOWN and the THE LAST POETS, The Lyric Lab will be used to teach children affected by gun violence how to create and perform music related to their personal struggles. This collaboration aims to demonstrate the power of art to the greater Wilmington community. It passes the cultural baton to our youth to reduce violence in our city.
The performance will contain explicit content.
All ticket purchases are final. No refunds or exchanges will be issued.

A workshop for artists at all levels that focuses on finding an embodied practice. Exploratory questions may include: How does a body make narrative? How does one build a movement vocabulary around the psychic condition of a character? Participants will work individually and in groups to explore developing a character through movement. In this studio-based workshop, Okpokwasili and Born will guide artists through ways to express the personal story through the body. This is at the intersection of performance and dance. 10-15 participants who are interested making art—either as a professional artist or enthusiastic amateur. No experience necessary! Ages 18 and up.

The theme for this year’s tour – Celebrating Timeless Classics – started as just an idea; we didn’t have any houses. We wanted to enlist local builders and architects to help choose beautiful homes, but we didn’t know what we’d discover. Now, after visits to these homes ourselves, we realize that we are lucky to be invited into the new grand homes of the Brandywine Valley. The residences have been built for today’s style of living – gracious, relaxed, family oriented – and will surely stand the test of time.
Thank you to our presenting sponsors, Dewson Construction, Period Architecture and Porter Construction who identified these homes for us. The six are all different; some definitely reflect the heritage of the stone farmhouses of the past, but others chart new territory.
Doors will be open on December 8 to:
- Elegant Highlands Classic on Kentmere Parkway
- New English Country Manor in Greenville
- Fox Hollow, the beautifully appointed home of one of our sponsors
- Surprise Prairie Style residence set among the Brandywine Valley rolling hills
- Tranquil Retreat, minimalist in decoration yet so inviting and restful
- Chester County Hillside Estate, where attention to architectural detail and spacious rooms and vistas entice us to linger
Tickets
$35 if you pick up at the Museum or buy at retail outlets: Janssen’s Market, Everything But the Kitchen Sink, Old Country Gardeds, Purple Sage Herbs & Gifts in Middletown, Studio 882 Furniture + Design in Glen Mills
$40 day of Holiday House Tour: Purchase Saturday, December 8, at the Museum or retail outlets.

Get inspired! Learn about the creative process from the artists of our latest Outlooks show, Intimate Visions: Paintings on Paper featuring David Hornung, Constance Moore Simon, Žaneta Zubkova.
About the Exhibition
The intimate vision of each artist—a mingling of reality and invention—blends the natural world with abstract shapes. Whether in luminous or subdued colors, these forms conjure up a cityscape or countryside. Patterns may suggest solid objects or floating fragments. The small scale of the works draw us into the vision for a closer look. Learn more.

The Crossing is a professional chamber choir conducted by Donald Nally and dedicated to new music. It is committed to working with creative teams to make and record new, substantial works for choir – most often addressing social issues – with the possibility of changing the way we think about writing for choir, singing in choir, and listening to music for choir.
Highly sought-after for collaborative projects, The Crossing’s first such partnership was as the resident choir of the Spoleto Festival in Italy, in 2007. Since then, collaborators include the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), American Composers Orchestra, Network for New Music, Lyric Fest, PRISM Saxophone Quartet, Beth Morrison Projects, Pig Iron Theatre Company, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Mostly Mozart Festival, National Gallery of Art, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum, Institute for Advanced Study, Carnegie Hall, National Sawdust, and Northwestern University. The Crossing holds an annual residency at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center in Big Sky, Montana. The Crossing has presented more than 60 commissioned world premieres, including works by Michael Gordon, John Luther Adams, David Lang, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Gavin Bryars, Ted Hearne, Caroline Shaw, David T. Little, Robert Maggio, Gabriel Jackson, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, and Hans Thomalla.
With a commitment to recording its commissions, The Crossing has issued 14 releases, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance in 2018, its second nomination in as many years.
