Project Yourself: 2017 4Youth Exhibition

In partnership with the Delaware Art Museum and collaboration with renowned artist, Margaret Bowland, 4youth Productions presents “Project Yourself”. During a special photography production at the museum, students worked as both photographer and model to create stunning portraits inspired by Margaret Bowland’s paintings. Margaret joined the production to paint on our students hands and faces. It was fascinating to see how Margaret’s painting worked as a catalyst, allowing the students to not only freely express themselves but also transform.

Join us next Sunday, January 15th, from 1 pm to 3 pm to meet our students and see this amazing series at the Delaware Art Museum.

Kids’ Corner Family-in-Residence: The Smiths

Introducing the Museum’s second resident family, the Smiths! Daniel, Elin, Lilly (age 17), Ida (age 13), and Lukas (age 8) are a creative and musical family from southern New Jersey. In addition to being visual artists, the whole family is a part of the American rock band Danielson Famile.

Over the winter, the Smiths imagined an interactive three-dimensional story titled “Lenny the Ice Cream Man”. The story unfolds throughout the space and visitors are invited to play a part. Families can explore an ice cream truck set within a Wilmington neighborhood; contribute drawings to an ever-growing art gallery in exchange for real* and imagined ice cream; recline on a pile of plush ice-cream-shaped pillows; and read the tale aloud. The story teaches children that creative ideas and art are valuable, empowering, and inspiring.

The Family-in-Residence program invites an artistic family to conceptualize, design, and create an interactive art installation in Kids’ Corner. During the residency, the resident family collaborates with each other, Museum staff, and family visitors to construct the installation.

*Complimentary real ice cream from Woodside Farm Creamery will be available. Non-dairy options included.

The NEW look of Kids’ Corner is made possible in part by:

The new look of Kids’ Corner is made possible by Phyllis and Buddy Aerenson, The Pollyanna Foundation, and individual donors. Additional sponsorship is provided by Woodside Farm Creamery.  Lenny the Ice Cream Man was created by the Smith family. Additional artwork created by our family visitors!

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Born almost exactly 100 years apart, the American painter Andrew Wyeth (1917–2009) and the British critic and amateur artist John Ruskin (1819–1900) shared a life-long obsession for the close observation and finely rendered imagery of the world around them. This exhibition places the work of Andrew Wyeth and John Ruskin together for the first time examining their varying approaches to interpreting the natural world.
