Art is After Dark : Fashion, Photography, and Art

Experience the new exhibition Fashion, Circus, Spectacle: Photographs by Scott Heiser with a fashion show by Rags to Riches upscale resale boutique and Sache Boutique, fashion sketching, clothing displays by Aoki, and ‘80s music with DJ Zip! The exhibition features stunning black-and-white photography of fashion runways, circuses, dance competitions, and more from the 1970s and ’80s.

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School of Philadelphia is back clad in ’80s outfits using Fashion, Circus, Spectacle: Photographs by Scott Heiser as inspiration. Special guest models include America’s Next Top Model Finalist Cory Wade Hindorff and Philadelphia burlesque royalty Kiki Berlin. Enjoy tunes by DJ John Burke and strike a pose in the ’80s-inspired photo booth with local photographer Leslie Barbaro!

Art is After Dark: Film & Fashion

Art is After Dark: Film & Fashion

Stop in for a special film screening of Bill Cunningham New York (2010), a documentary about the noted New York City fashion photographer. Cunningham, who worked with photographer Scott Heiser at SoHo Weekly News, chronicled fashion trends, high-society charity soireés, downtown eccentrics, uptown fixtures such as Anna Wintour, and everyone in between.

There will be a tour of the exhibition Fashion, Circus, Spectacle: Photographs by Scott Heiser at 6:30 p.m. The film will start at 7:30 p.m. (90 minutes) with an introduction by Curator Heather Campbell Coyle.

Art is After Dark: Battle of the Ages
Jun 13 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Enjoy a summer night with a mix of rock, classic rock, reggae, and blues for Battle of the Ages! The Battle will be made up of two bands of 6-10 local musicians competing for the title and prizes. The Old Timers (over 35) versus The Young Ones (under 35) will perform live and visitors will get the chance to vote for their favorite band. 

Guests are also invited to stroll through the galleries on a docent-led tour from 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. A cash bar with food will also be available.

**The event will be moved indoors due to the inclement weather.***

Art is After Dark: Artful Yoga

Bring your mat and practice yoga among art at the Museum! Join instructor Hunter Clarke-Fields for a relaxing session of yoga and learn more about zen works in the contemporary collection on a docent-led tour.

Session 1 (6:30 p.m. = moved indoors):
Flow from the Inside Out:
Experience Core-strength vinyasa, the most organic form of flowing yoga. In this all-levels class, Hunter will teach you how to move “from the inside-out,” for greater stability and ease in your yoga. This class is for those who want to move.

Session 2 (8:00 p.m. indoors):
Yoga with the Heart of Loving-Kindness:
Relax, revive, and become attuned to your most peaceful self with this gentle yoga practice. Hunter will incorporate loving-kindness practice into this stress-relieving yoga session. Let go of the tensions of the week and find your bliss.

About Hunter Clarke-Fields:
Hunter Clarke-Fields, MSAE, RYT, has over 18 years of experience in yoga practice and over 8 years experience teaching yoga. She has been a meditator and mindfulness practitioner for over a decade, and has the dharma name, “Calm breath of the heart.” She thrives on serving others through yoga, practicing her creative expression as an artist, and nurturing a mindful and joyful life with her family. Hunter blogs at HunterYoga.com and you can listen to her podcast, Yoga Stories Project.

IMG_1941Grab a date or a friend and head to the Museum for a speakeasy-inspired Valentine’s Day soirée! Dress your best and enjoy prohibition-era cocktails, Jazz Age music by Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society, swing dancing demonstrations from the University of Delaware Swing Clubsketching in the galleries, and more.

Valentine’s speakeasy cocktails and treats will be available in the Thronson Café with a secret password given at the front desk the night of the event.
