Step Afrika! | Drumfolk – Cancelled
Apr 3 @ 8:00 pm

This event has been cancelled.

Back by Popular demand, Step Afrika! returns to Wilmington with its blend of the percussive tradition of stepping with African and contemporary dance. The Company’s newest creation, Drumfolk, inspired by the Stono Rebellion of 1739, explores this little-known event in American history that forever transformed African-American life and culture. When Africans lost the right to use their drums, their rhythms found their way into the body of the people, the Drumfolk. New percussive forms took root leading to the development of some of our country’s most distinct performance traditions like the ring shout, tap, and stepping.

This program is sponsored by Capital and Worth in association with H&R Block and made possible in Delaware by the Amphion Foundation. The presentation of Step Afrika! was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.

May 21 @ 7:30 pm
Performance: Pyxis Piano Quartet - Continental Bridges @ Delaware Art Museum

With the Museum’s beautiful Chihuly Bridge overhead, Pyxis turns to music that spans time and geography and links composers to their homeland. The evening’s major work is Dvořák’s justly famous and masterful Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major.

At 7:30 p.m., a Museum curator will present a 15-minute pre-concert talk. You are also welcome to arrive early for dinner and light fare in the Museum’s Thronson Café. The concert begin at 8:00 and will feature complimentary desserts and coffee at intermission.

Season tickets are $90 for Museum Members, $105 for Non-Members, and $75 for students with a valid ID.
Individual tickets are $30 for Museum Members, $35 for Non-Members, and $25 for students.
