Museum exceeds Jessie Ball matching gift challenge campaign
April 23, 2015
In spring 2014, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund—one of the Museum’s most loyal supporters—challenged the Museum to raise $75,000. If the Museum met this goal, the Fund promised to make a matching $75,000 donation. But in order to secure the match, donations couldn’t come from just anyone. Eligible gifts had to come from current Museum supporters who had increased their annual giving and made gifts in the $1,000 – $10,000 range.
And 32 of the Museum’s loyal donors responded enthusiastically to this challenge by, on average, doubling their annual gifts to the Museum. Collectively, these donors raised approximately $85,000 between April 2014 and March 2015.
Annette Woolard-Provine, Chair of the Museum’s Board Development Committee, applauded the donors’ generosity.
“These were big gifts for many of our supporters,” said Woolard-Provine. “The fact that these donors were willing to dig deep and increase their support–especially during such a difficult year for the Museum–is a testament to how much they value the Museum’s vital work.”
Susan Kreshtool, a longtime Museum supporter and President of the Museum’s Docents, says she donated to the campaign because she thinks it’s important to let the community know how vital their support is.
“Many people don’t realize that individual donations are what really sustain the Museum,” Kreshtool said. “I wanted to make a gift to this campaign so the Museum could secure the $75,000 match, but also because I wanted my gift to send a message that it’s up to every member, visitor, or person who loves the Museum to step up and support it.”
Kay Keenan, a Museum Member for over a decade, also thought it was important to support the campaign.
“We felt that this year was an especially important time to support the Museum and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund’s matching campaign made it a no-brainer,” Keenan said. “And since we live in the neighborhood, it’s also important to us that we help the Museum be a vibrant neighbor, so when asked to donate, we could hardly say no.”
The $157,250 raised through the Jessie Ball duPont matching gift challenge campaign–$82,250 from donors and $75,000 from the Fund–will support the Museum’s general operating fund, which includes exhibitions and art conservation to school outreach and educational programs for visitors of all ages.
The Museum thanks the Jessie Ball duPont Fund and the donors who supported the matching gift challenge campaign for their generosity!
