Art Camp

Registration is now open!

The Delaware Art Museum’s summer program for children ages 6 – 12 provides a creative experience with professional instruction in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Young artists explore drawing, painting, ceramics, and more in the Bank of America Education Wing Studio as well as throughout the Museum’s galleries and Copeland Sculpture Garden. Camp is full-day from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Each session ends with a camper art show for family and friends.

Ages 6 – 12: One Week Sessions

Myth & Magic
June 10 – 14 | $275 Members, $305 Non-Members
Campers will go on an epic adventure and envision their own fantastical worlds as they delve into stories from all over the globe. Projects include “far far away” landscapes and mythological sculptures.

The Great Outdoors
June 17 – 21 | $275 Members, $305 Non-Members
Landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, and even the Museum’s outdoor sculptures will serve as inspiration for this session. Campers will capture the beauty of nature with a variety of mediums.

Junk to Gems
June 24 – 28 | $275 Members, $305 Non-Members
Create one of a kind treasure from ordinary materials! Campers will reconfigure everyday objects with creative twists to make unique works of art.

Pirates & Mermaids
July 1 – 3 (3 days) | $175 Members, $205 Non-Members
Dive deep into some of the Museum’s most beloved paintings of pirates and mermaids. Campers will create a collection of adventurous artwork using various mediums.

Artists of the Caribbean
August 19 – 23 | $275 Members, $305 Non-Members
Young artists will explore the places we call home and the world we live in through contemporary art in Relational Undercurrents: Contemporary Art of the Caribbean Archipelago. Projects will include multi-media maps and creative landscapes.

Ages 6 – 12: Two Week Sessions

Sculpture Mania
July 8 – 19 | $500 Members, $560 Non-Members
This session is all about carving, building, forming and sculpting! Campers will find inspiration in a variety of three dimensional artworks on display in the Copeland Sculpture Garden and inside the Museum. Projects include ceramic sculptures, nature installations, and leaning towers.

The Artist’s Toolbox
July 22 – August 2 | $500 Members, $560 Non-Members
Fill your artist tool box with the elements of art! Campers will look at and create artwork exploring the process of art-making. Shape, form, pattern, color, and line will be discovered while using a variety of media. Fun and exciting class projects include colorful printmaking and imaginative clay sculpture.

Cartoon Creations
August 5 – 16 | $500 Members, $560 Non-Members
Aspiring young illustrators will share their stories with original cartoon creations! The Museum’s one-of-a-kind illustration collection will serve as inspiration as campers create artwork full of imagination. Projects include illustrated color cartoons and 3D characters made out of clay.

Ages 13 – 16: One Week Sessions

Ceramic Exploration

June 24 – 28 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | $170 Members, $200 Non-Members
Teens will explore ceramic hand building techniques and use the potter’s wheel to make personalized bowls, mugs, plates, and more! Pieces will be finished with creative glazing.
Register: Ages 13 – 16.

Make Your Own Comic Book
July 15 – 19 | $275 Members, $305 Non-Members
Create and publish an original comic book in this one-week session. Campers will start with character development, move into storyboarding, and end with a complete comic book inked, colored, and ready to share!

Portfolio Prep
August 5 – 9 | $275 Members, $305 Non-Members
This summer intensive for teens will help those looking to keep their skills sharp and expand their art portfolio before the next school year begins.

Registration

Due to the popularity of the Museum’s camp program, all Summer Art Camp sessions require written or online registration and payment. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

THE RED APPLE FUND

The Delaware Art Museum is pleased to offer grants for Summer Art Camp through the Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment. Full funding for tuition will be awarded to those who receive a Summer Art Camp Grant. All children registering for camp are eligible for scholarships unless an applicant has received funding from the Red Apple Fund in the past six months.

To apply, please complete a Red Apple Summer Art Camp Grant application available below along with a camp registration by April 8, 2019. All applicants will be notified of their status between April 17 – 19, 2019. For more information, call 302.351.8551 or send an email to redapple@delart.org.
