Postmodernism: American Art since 1980
Gallery 17
The end of the 20th century saw the foregrounding of questions of identity as artists explored race, class, gender, and personal biography.
Experimentation with new materials expanded, and artists began breaking down the boundaries between fine art and craft. The lines between artistic media—painting and photography, sculpture and architecture—also began to blur, and artists like George Segal produced installations, which are works that combined sculptural, painted, and found elements to activate an entire space. |
