The Delaware Art Museum’s summer program for children ages 6 – 12 provides a creative experience with professional instruction in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Young artists, divided into two groups, explore drawing, painting, ceramics, and more in the Bank of America Education Wing Studio as well as throughout the Museum’s galleries and Copeland Sculpture Garden. Camp is full-day from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Each session ends with a camper art show for family and friends.
Session 1: The Artist’s Toolbox
June 15 – 26 | $500 for Members, $560 Non-Members
Fill your artist tool box with the elements of art! Campers will look at and create artwork exploring the process of art-making. Art elements such as shape, form, pattern, color, and line will be discovered while using a variety of media. Fun and exciting class projects include colorful printmaking and imaginative clay sculpture.
Session 2: The Great Outdoors
June 29 – July 10 (no camp July 6) | $450 for Members, $510 Non-Members
Landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, and even the Museum’s outdoor sculptures will serve as inspiration for this session. Don’t worry about the summer heat because campers will capture the beauty of nature with natural materials, watercolors, clay, and paint inside the Studio after inspirational walks through the galleries and the Copeland Sculpture Garden.
Session 3: Animal Tales
July 13 – 24 | $500 for Members, $560 Non-Members
Come on an adventure through the Museum and explore animals in artwork such as Deborah Butterfield’s Riot and Abbott Handerson Thayer’s The Old Lion. Creative artwork will be inspired by all kinds of animals, both real and imagined. Projects include ceramic figures, cut paper designs, and roaring masks.
Session 4: Faces and Places
July 27 – August 7 | $500 for Members, $560 Non-Members
There are so many people to see and places to go in the Museum! Campers will find inspiration in the Museum’s collections including the exhibition Dream Streets: Art in Wilmington 1970 – 1990, while making their own artwork full of faces and places! Learn the art of portraits and landscapes through drawing, painting, printing, and ceramics. Projects will include masks, imagined landscapes, self-portraits, and more.
Registration for Members opens on February 5, 2015. Registration opens for Non-Members on February 12, 2015.
Due to the popularity of the Museum’s camp program, all Summer Art Camp sessions require written or online registration and payment. A medical information form is also required. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
