Art Camp

Spring Art Camp
 
Dinosaur Discovery Camp
March 22 – March 26 (5 days) | 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. | Ages 6-10 years old

Dinosaur Discovery Camp You don’t need to go away this Spring Break to venture to new lands. Kids will love discovering a new world of Dinosaurs at Spring Break Art Camp! Campers will have a blast making dinosaur-related art inspired by the exhibition Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney. Students will create a variety of imaginative paintings, drawings, sculptures, and more. Camp will include visits to the Museum’s galleries, sketching in the Sculpture Garden, and a unique outreach experience through the Delaware Museum of Natural History. Don’t miss this year’s exciting camp experience!

Summer Art Camp

The Delaware Art Museum’s Summer Art Camp for children ages 6 – 12 provides a creative experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Camp is held in the Museum’s Bank of America Education Wing and includes regular visits to the Museum’s galleries and the Copeland Sculpture Garden. Camp is full-day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each session will be divided into two age groups: 6 – 9 years old and 10 – 12 years old.

 
Session 1: Animal Adventures Session 1: Animal Adventures
June 21 – July 2, 2010

Come on an adventure through the Museum and explore animals in artwork such as Deborah Butterfield’s Riot and Abbott Handerson Thayer’s The Old Lion. Creative artwork will be inspired by all kinds of animals, both real and imagined. Projects include ceramic figures, cut paper designs, and roaring masks.

Session 2: Faces and Places Session 2: Faces and Places
July 5 – July 16, 2010

There are so many people to see and places to go in the Museum! Campers will find inspiration in the Museum’s collection while making their own artwork full of faces and places. Learn the art of portraits and landscapes through drawing, painting, printing, and ceramics. Projects will include masks, imagined landscapes, self-portraits, and more.

Session 3: Illustration Nation Session 3: Illustration Nation
July 19 – July 30, 2010

Find your passion for stories and artful illustration. Explorations of the Museum’s one-of-a-kind illustration collection will inspire creative artwork full of imagination. After looking at works by Howard Pyle and other American illustrators, campers will make their own stories, illustrations, and fantastical sculptures.

Session 4: Museum Expedition Session 4: Museum Expedition
August 2 – August 13, 2010

On this fantastic voyage, campers will become explorers to discover shape, form, pattern, color, and line. Campers will also find “abstract art” on a visit to the Museum’s special exhibition Fifty Works for the First State: The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection as inspiration for dreamy drawings and colorful designs. Projects will include paintings, prints, and sculptures of boats, maps, far-away lands, and more!
