Beginning Jewelry for Teens

(Ages 14 and older)—Students will learn the basic jewelry-making techniques in our fantastic metalsmithing studio. Students will learn sawing, filing, drilling, soldering, and joining metal in order to create jewelry of their own design.

(Ages 14 and older)—This class is designed for high school students with a passion for art, an interest in creating a portfolio, and plans to continue studying art after high school. The aim of this course is to introduce a variety of drawing techniques, vocabulary, and media. Classes will consist of drawing exercises as well as participating in demonstrations and critiques. (Ages 6 – 14)—A fun Tuesday afternoon children’s clay class! Children will be able to relax and enjoy the magical qualities of clay while they explore this versatile medium. Everyone will create wacky and beautiful clay objects by rolling, pinching, coiling, and painting, often laughing along the way.

(Ages 9 – 14)—Students will learn the fundamentals of art in the Museum’s Studio. Basic drawing, painting, and sculpting will be explored, focusing on processes and techniques. Art history will be discussed, including visits to the Museum’s galleries and discussions on artists in the collection. Students will learn creative techniques and develop an appreciation for art.

(Ages 10 – 13)—In this class, the basic fundamentals of art are taught, developed, and practiced, leading kids to make fun works of art. The class will focus on drawing, with additional painting and sculpting projects. Various artists featured in the Museum’s collection will help students draw inspiration. Art projects will be big and small, and students will work individually and in groups. The goal is for kids to love their creations and develop a new appreciation for art!

(Ages 6 – 12)—Kids will have fun painting ceramic tiles in this one day workshop inspired by the exhibition Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney. After touring and exploring Dinotopia, students will work in the ceramics studio creating one-of-a-kind tiles. (Finished tiles will be available for pick-up on the following Saturday.)
