Supply list—Drawing
Instructor: John Sevcik
For our first class, you only need the first 2 items and a couple of regular #2 pencils:
A Newsprint Pad, 18" x 24" (can be smaller or larger as you feel appropriate).
A pad of acid free sketch paper, whatever size you prefer.
Jumbo Charcoal sticks, medium and soft; or regular vine charcoal, if you prefer.
A kneaded erasure.
A regular rubber erasure for pencils.
Drawing stumps.
Chamois cloth. Some people find the artificial chamois cloth at auto stores works as well.
A set of pencils: 2 regular #2’s (soft) are a good start. You will want to add a 4B, a 6B, a 2H, a 4H.
You can buy sticks of graphite, in bar shape or pencil shape, or carpenter’s pencils, which are
flat wooden pencils with broad tips. Any form of graphite, or several, will be useful for your experimentation. Try to get them in the soft form, 6B, or 4B.
Optional:
A few sheets of Arches Cover paper (to be discussed inclass), or Ingres paper, or other quality acid-free paperwith a good "tooth".
Jumbo white artists’ chalk, or a stick of white dry pastel.
Compressed charcoal, medium and soft.
Reworkable spray fixative.
The instructor may also introduce additional materials.
See you in class,
John Sevcik
