Studio Art Program Instructors

HRATCH BABIKIAN is a graduate of University of the Arts. Came to Philadelphia Via Lebanon Beirut, and has been running his Metal studio since the mid 80's.He is a goldsmith and sculptor working in different materials, including precious metals ,non ferrous and ferrous metals ,woods and stone. His work has showcased nationally and internationally .Has extensive experience in working for different design studios and industry, including furniture hardware. Veronique Cote VERONIQUE COTE, was born in Quebec, Canada. She has a  Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Arts with specialty in design and sculpture from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi and a Masters of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her work blends alternative fiber processes, sculpture and photography to depict a personal mythology based on cultural fiction and fairy tales.  She is currently the Gallery Director at Yo Darkroom in Philadelphia, PA. MAGGIE DEBAECK Ereceived her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and subsequently studied metals and jewelry making at Tyler School of Art. She has also taught metals and jewelry making at Main Line Art Center, Peters Valley Craft Center, Wayne Art Center and, most recently, Penland School of Crafts. View her work.

CARYN L. HETHERSTON has been designing and creating one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry as well as small-scale sculptures with wearable elements for over 30 years. She studied metalsmithing at Philadelphia College of Art and Peters Valley Craft Center. Her work has been shown in galleries and exhibitions all over the country and published in numerous books and publications. DAVID LEE JONES studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His art work has garnered numerous awards and is represented in the collections of Rohm and Haas Corporation and Bank of America. David continues to paint, teach and exhibit his work regionally.

JACQUELINE JROLF MFA, is a sculptor and educator living in the Pennsylvania. She has previously taught classes at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Wayne Art Center in Wayne, PA, Abington Art Center in Jenkintown, PA, Cheltenham Art Center, Cheltenham, PA and at Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. AMANDA B. KAMEN, has a B.F.A. from The College of New Jersey, and recently received a M.F.A. from the University of Delaware.  Presently she is a Lecturer in Art at Washington College, Chestertown, MD.  Most recent exhibitions include Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE, Crane Arts Building, Philadelphia, PA, Brooklyn Artists Gym, Brooklyn, NY, and The Foundry Gallery, London Biennale 2006, Shoreditch, England. CAROL MAURER, M.Ed is an experiential educator, T’ai Chi instructor and labyrinth facilitator. She has been fortunate enough to facilitate programs to people at The Golden Door, Rancho La Puerta, Outward Bound, The Adventure Network, Cunard Cruise Lines, Wallingford/Swarthmore School District, Swarthmore College and other fabulous organizations! CHARLIE METZGER received his BA at Haverford College in Pennsylvania and his MFA at the University of Delaware. He also studied at Penland School of Crafts and served as a resident artist at Baltimore Clayworks. In addition, Charlie has taught fine arts at Cecil County Community College in Maryland, Haverford College and the University of Delaware.

CHRISTINA TATIANA MILLER is an artist/metalsmith currently living near Philadelphia. She has an MFA from East Carolina University and a BFA from Millersville University. She also studied at Le Arti Orafe Jewelry School in Florence, Italy. She has taught at Arrowmont in Tennessee, The Peninsula Art School, WI, as well as Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, Millersville University and Massachusetts College of Art. She has exhibited nationally and internationally.

ROE MURRAY graduated with a BS from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, pursued graduate courses at Tyler School of Art and Arcadia University and completed a teaching certification through Immaculata College. She has taught art in Pennsylvania public and private schools and at the Wayne Art Center, in Wayne, PA. She has taken part in various group shows and has exhibited in various galleries. SAM & KATE MYLIN are directors of Masterpiece Art, where their purpose is to “ignite creativity and develop relationships.” Sam is a 1985 graduate of Antonelli Institute of Art and Photography and Kate graduated in 1987 from Kutztown University. Both are members in the Lancaster County Art Association as well as other organizations throughout PA. Both are working artists and exhibit their artwork throughout PA and DE.

MARY ELIZABETH NELSON is a lettering and book artist with a background in fine art. For the last 20 years Mary Elizabeth has turned her attention to calligraphy and book arts. She has studied throughout the United States and in China in 1989. She has received Awards of Excellence at the juried exhibitions of the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society, of which she is an active member. Mary Elizabeth teaches a class, Paper Creations, at art centers throughout the tri-county area of Southeast Pennsylvania. She also teaches for the University of the Arts Continuing Inspiration Program.

EO OMWAKE graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he also served as an instructor. Additionally, Eo has worked as a visiting artist or instructor at Drexel University, Moore College of Art, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas. View his work.

TRACI PARMAN received her BS from the University of Delaware. She pursued additional studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and her one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces have been exhibited across the country. Currently, Traci teaches silversmithing classes at the Delaware College of Art and Design.

LAURIE SCHORR received a Bachelors of Art in Visual Studies, with a Photography Concentration, from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.  She is currently working towards a Masters in Art Education from Columbia University in New York.  She has exhibited in galleries across the north east.  View her work at www.laurieschorrphotography.com

JOHN SEVCIK received his BA from Villanova University and graduated with a certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He has taught Drawing and Painting at the Delaware Art Museum and Immaculata College and Art History at Bucks County Community College in Pennsylvania. BENNETT SIEGEL received his BFA in sculpture from the University of Delaware and his MFA in oil painting from the University of Oregon. His work is well represented in private and corporate collections locally and across the country. He maintains his painting and sculpture studios at his residence in rural Nottingham, Pennsylvania.

CONNIE SIMON received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from Syracuse University. She has participated in both solo and group exhibitions at such institutions as the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts and the Philadelphia Art Alliance, garnering numerous awards and honors. Connie also serves on the art faculty of Delaware College of Art and Design, University of Delaware and the Delaware Art Museum.

AL STASZESKY has been teaching painting, drawing and sculpture for over 20 years. He studied with Violette de Mazia at the Barnes Foundation and privately with artist Ed Loper for 30 years. INEZ STARR graduated with a BS in Fine Art from Skidmore College and a MFA from Pratt Institute (both in New York). She pursued post-graduate level courses at the University of the Arts and Boston University. As a prominent artist and educator, Inez has held positions as Department Chairperson or Art Instructor in both high school and college settings for over 35 years. She has exhibited her own art work throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York and New Mexico. www.inezstarrpaintings.com

CYNTHIA SWANSON received her BFA from Philadelphia College of Art, now the University of the Arts. An accomplished artist and instructor, she has taught adult art classes for the last 20 years at such institutions as
the Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn, Delaware, the Newark Arts Alliance and the Rehoboth Art League. Cynthia also actively exhibits her artwork throughout Delaware and Pennsylvania.

NANCY WAMBACH is a Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Guild certified teacher. She has been exploring and teaching PMC for over six years, learning from her students. She enjoys studying a wide variety of jewelry techniques and materials to expand her skills.
   
DEBORAH PARISI, a Wilmington resident for most of her life, received her BFA from Tyler School of Art of Temple University in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM in Philadelphia. She immediately began teaching elementary school art while receiving her Art Education License from the State of Delaware. Deborah works in many different two and three-Dimensional media, but most enjoys colorful small scale foam sculpture which she assmembles with tension and pressure fitting. View her work.
   

DENISE PETTIT received a degree from Penn State University, as well as certifications in Commercial Art from the Art Institute of Houston and Wilderness Camping from St. Leo’s College in Florida.  Previously a graphic designer, Denise now designs jewelry. www.aestheticals.com

   

MARTHE ROBERTS/SHEA graduated from Moore College of Art, in Philadelphia, with a  BFA degree. Marthe's Sculptural woodworking and functional furniture has been shown in galleries nationally, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine and Art Jewelry Magazine.  She is part of several private collections in Washington, DC, New York, New Mexico and Pennsylvania. She studied at the Abington Art Center, The Cheltenham Center for the Arts and Cheltenham Adult Learning Center. Marthe is a lifetime member of the Art Students league in New York City and a member of the Pennsylvania Gold Smith Society, American Crafts Council and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. www.jewelrybymars.com
