Painting in a small format is fun and fast. The class will paint fruit, flowers, fish, landscapes, or whatever interests the student. Composition, values, color, and simplicity produce a successful miniature. The class will utilize real objects (fruit, flowers), magazine clippings, and any other pictorial references. In this class, students will use impressionism as a basis to paint colors that the eyes see, not that the brain sees. Additional styles of art are also discussed as the class progresses. Winter reminds one of snow, bare landscapes and winter skies. These elements will be the primary lessons for this session. This class is perfect for those who have experience working in water-media and watercolors and would like to enhance and explore adding other mediums and materials to their watercolors. Students will work at their own pace, having the opportunity to emboss, chase, reticulate metal, and explore other surface decoration techniques. In this class students will be introduced to color on metal with torch fired enameling. Five class sessions will be dedicated to this process and students will learn how to frame, bezel, and cold join their enamels. Each student will be given a selection of objects and will have 5 weeks to create an original piece of jewelry using these objects and metals supplied by the student. At the end of the class a panel of guest metalsmiths will critique and judge the work. They will determine a winner on the criteria of originality, wear-ability and workmanship. Students will also learn how to "think like a Designer", while using their skills and picking up some "Bench Tips" in the process. Class demonstrations will be provided to help students better understand construction and procedure. This is a great class for people looking to add more creativity and imagination to their pieces.
