From Drawing to Painting

Mondays, April 9 – June 4 (no class May 28) | 9:30 a.m. –  12:30 p.m.

Starting with drawing and transitioning into painting, students of all levels will explore a variety of subjects through still lifes and photographs in this relaxed class. Students will also experiment with charcoal, conté, pastels, and water-based media such as acrylic and water soluble oils for painting.

Watercolors

This course is designed to provide students with a foundation in watercolor painting. Get ready to have fun learning color mixing and application techniques including wet-in-wet, glazing, dry brushing, and resists.

Oil Painting

This course will focus on approaches and techniques for representational oil painting. Direct observation along with working from a photographic reference will be the basis for combining light, shadow and color to create realistic paintings. Each class will be tailored to individual needs and interests.

Expressionistic Painting

Use color, shape, and brushstrokes to loosen up your artwork and move away from realistic painting towards more expressive painting. This class is designed for all artists, from adventurous beginners to advanced artists that need a fresh perspective.

Continuing Watercolors

Post-beginner to advanced-level students will continue to learn about watercolors and refine their skills.  This session will focus on techniques for depicting birds and florals.

Practice basic drawing techniques. Gesture, contour, quality of line, composition, form, and perspective will be emphasized. Working from observation is the basis of this course, but individual expression is the goal.
