Do you have an interest in art? Do you enjoy meeting people? Expand your horizons while you teach adult and school groups in the Delaware Art Museum as a Docent Tour Guide.
The Museum is currently accepting applicants for its September Docent training program. If you are seeking a rewarding volunteer experience, enjoy learning and working with the public, and have an interest in art, we invite you to apply.
Museum Docents provide tours of the galleries for visitors of all ages and inform the community about the Museum’s collections and special exhibitions. Candidates are not required to have a background in art to become a Docent, but must be willing to learn and have fun! Volunteer Docents prepare for the role of educator through a weekly training program that encompasses art history, tour skills, and public speaking.
We are looking for people with enthusiasm, flexibility, professionalism, imagination, and a willingness to learn about art. Experience in art, art history, public speaking, or education is helpful, but not required. The Delaware Art Museum Docents are an enthusiastic group who enjoy taking trips to other museums, meeting and discussing the Museum’s collection and exhibits with its curators, and researching and learning about art together.
The new training class will begin in September 2015 and end June 2016. The program requires a weekly commitment (every Tuesday for 3 hours, excluding holidays).
