Teacher Workshop: Contemporary Crafts
Tuesday, July 15 | 10:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
$10 per educator
Teachers will enjoy this “double-feature” of two special exhibitions celebrating craftsmanship. The first stop includes a visit to the Delaware Art Museum for a tour of Garry Knox Bennett: Call Me Chairmaker. This exhibition features 52 one-of-a-kind sculptural chairs created by Garry Knox Bennett, one of the foremost contemporary studio furniture makers in America. Teachers will then visit the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts for a curator-led tour of work by Tom Huang, a graduate of Tatnall School who is now Assistant Professor of Industrial Design at the University of Kansas. Huang is trained as an architect and furniture designer and attempts to bridge the gap between studio furniture, contemporary fiber arts, and sculpture in his work. Guided tours of both exhibitions and a hands-on art activity are included in the program.
