For younger children, the new “Community and Creativity” tour transports students into a variety of different communities, exploring urban and rural landscapes. Also, the Museum’s popular Glory of Stories program is now available for Pre-K and kindergarten groups.
The Museum’s exhibition schedule presents a series of blockbusters through the coming school year, and tours can be arranged for these temporary shows as well. Seeing the City: Sloan’s New York, organized by the Delaware Art Museum and traveling to three more cities after Wilmington, allows viewers to explore New York City during the early 20th century. In addition, the rotund figures depicted in The Baroque World of Fernando Botero may be humorous, but the historical and political issues they raise deserve serious examination.
Teacher Workshops are held in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibitions to help teachers craft lesson plans. For instance, a workshop for Seeing the City: Sloan’s New York will suggest map-making and journal-writing projects based upon John Sloan’s efforts to make sense of the city he recreated so dramatically.
Don’t forget, grants to help fund tours are available year-round through the Museum’s Red Apple Fund. I look forward to welcoming your students to the Delaware Art Museum!
