Summer Art Camp 2008
The Delaware Art Museum’s summer program for children ages 6 – 12 provides a creative experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Camp is held in the Museum’s Bank of America Education Wing and includes regular visits to the Museum’s galleries and the Copeland Sculpture Garden. Camp is full-day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each session will be divided into two age groups: 6 – 9 years old and 10 – 12 years old. All camps are two-weeks sessions.

Session 1: Artist’s Tool Box
June 23 – July 3, 2008
(No camp Friday, July 4)
$450 Members/$500 Non-Members
Fill your artist tool box with the elements of art! Campers will look at and create artwork exploring the process of art-making. Art elements such as shape, form, pattern, color, and line will be discovered. Fun and exciting class projects include colorful printmaking and imaginative clay sculpture.
Session 2: Mixed-Media Madness
July 7 – 18, 2008
$500 Members/$550 Non-Members
Take your artistic energy and run wild! Campers will explore a wide array of mixed-media art, from the decorative forms seen in Richard Cleaver’s Queen’s Closet to the zany chair creations found in the special exhibition Garry Knox Bennett: Call Me Chairmaker. Class art projects include found art creations, mixed-media collages, and decorative design.
Session 3: Animal Tales
July 21 – August 1, 2008
$500 Members/$550 Non-Members
Come along on a safari through the Museum and explore animals in artwork such as Deborah Butterfield’s Riot and Abbott Handerson Thayer’s Lion at Rest. Creative artwork will be inspired by all kinds of animals, both real and imagined. Projects include ceramic figures, cut paper designs, and roaring masks.
Session 4: Passion for Abstraction
August 4 – 15, 2008
$500 Members/$550 Non-Members
Find your passion for dreamy drawings and colorful designs. Explorations of Modern art in the Museum’s collection will inspire creative and fun artwork. Campers will investigate abstraction, as seen in the colorful works of artists such as Hans Hofman and Al Held. Projects include paper collage, splatter painting, and bizarre sculptures!

The Delaware Art Museum is pleased to offer grants for Summer Art Camp through the Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment. Full funding for tuition will be awarded to those who receive a Summer Art Camp Grant. All children registering for camp are eligible for scholarships unless an applicant has received funding from the Red Apple Fund in the past 6 months. To apply, please complete a Red Apple Summer Art Camp grant application along with the registration form by May 1, 2008.
