About the Museum
The Delaware Art Museum’s world-renowned collection of over 12,000 works of art focuses on American art and illustration from the 19th century to the present, as well as the British Pre-Raphaelite movement of the 19th century. Founded in 1912 with works by American illustrator Howard Pyle (1853-1911), the Museum had a growing body of American art by 1938, when it opened on Kentmere Parkway with the Bancroft Collection of Pre-Raphaelite Art, donated by the family of Wilmington collector Samuel Bancroft, Jr. (1840-1915). From 1960 until her death in 2005, the Museum also benefited from the generosity of Helen Farr Sloan, who donated works by leading American painter and printmaker John Sloan (1871-1951) and other art artists of his period. The Helen Farr Sloan Library & Archives houses manuscripts and archives related to works in the collections as well general art reference books.
About the Outlooks Exhibition Series
The series is part of the Museum’s mission to connect people to art, offering an inclusive and essential community resource that through its collections, exhibitions, and programs generates creative energy that sustains, enriches, empowers, and inspires.
To help forge this link with its regional community, the Museum invites proposals for exhibitions that have been created by residents and organizations of the surrounding area.
