Volunteer

The Delaware Art Museum has a strong and diverse volunteer group. These individuals provide a valuable service by offering their time and talent to support, strengthen and improve the Museum, which ultimately strengthens and improves our Community. Duties and time commitment vary according to Museum needs. The majority of volunteers work on an on-call basis. Details of current opportunities are listed below.

Docents

Docents engage and inform the community about the Museum’s collections and special exhibitions. Volunteer docents are prepared for the role of educator through an extensive weekly training program that encompasses art history, tour skills, and public speaking skills.  We are looking for people with enthusiasm, flexibility, professionalism, imagination and a willingness to learn about art. Experience in art, art history, public speaking or education is helpful, but not required.

To apply, contact Courtney Waring, Director of Education at 302-351-8509 or e-mail cwaring@delart.org. The next docent class will begin Fall 2008.

Library Assistants

Library Assistants are needed to help with shelving books and other various projects. Shifts are flexible weekdays, Monday through Friday. The time commitment varies, but most shifts are approximately 1.5-2 hours per week. Computer skills are helpful but not required. This is a good opportunity if you enjoy books and people, are friendly, can think quickly, and have an eye for detail.

For more information, please contact Rachael DiEleuterio, Head Librarian, at rdieleuterio@delart.org or 302-351-8540.

Education Volunteers

Education Volunteers are needed to assist with children’s art activities, family programs, and summer camp. These programs are offered throughout the year, and the time commitment varies with each program. This is a good opportunity if you enjoy working with children, are friendly, would like to meet new people, and enjoy big, fun events.
